Each year in the lead up to the annual awards ceremony, we work with partner organisations to organise a selection of events and panel discussions with our shortlisted writers. These are a great opportunity for people to meet the writers and find out more about the literary journey.
The winner is usually announced at a dinner in Oxford in July, to which the shortlisted candidates are all invited. In 2017 the dinner will be held in London for the first time. This is part of a week of activities for the candidates, including book readings, book signings and press opportunities.
Additionally, each year we partner with three literature festivals across Africa where the prize winner is invited to attend. Ake Festival takes place in November in Abeokuta, Nigeria; Open Book Festival in Cape Town, South Africa and Storymoja in Nairobi, Kenya which both take place in September.
